For candidates

Working for yourself, measured.

Self-employment asks for the occupational requirements of the trade and, on top of them, a set of enterprise requirements. Both are measured the same way as any role: evidenced, partial or missing, against what you have recorded.

The ten enterprise requirements

  • Finding customers
  • Pricing the work
  • Quoting and winning it
  • Delivering to a standard
  • Record keeping
  • Invoicing and getting paid
  • Managing cash across quiet months
  • Insurance and compliance for the trade
  • Working alone, sustainably
  • Knowing when to stop or change course

What this is not

It is not business planning, funding, tax, incorporation or viability advice, and it does not tell you whether a business will work. It tells you which of these requirements you can currently evidence. Anything beyond that line is referred to Smeaton & Co.

Measurement in development — requirements published, scoring not yet live.
